The CEO ST LOUIS GROUP
Dear Sir,
It is my singular pleasure once again to extend my New Year wishes to you and the
entire institution. It may be coming a little bit late, but you know they say it
is better late than never. I want to wish you and the entire St. Louis group especially,
St Louis higher institute of health and Biomedical sciences a very happy and prosperous
new year 2008.
I also want to steal this moment to heartedly thank you and thank you again for
what you are doing to youths of the NWP in particular and Cameroon in general and
most of all to humanity, for the greatest gift you can give children are the roots
of responsibility and the wings of independence (Denis Waitley). You are a great
admiration and a mentor to most of us. May God richly bless you and continue to
give you wisdom and resources to continue to do what you have been doing and remember
the highest reward for a persons toil is not what they get for it, but what they
become by it.
Doc 2007 was a joyful year for me, and any were I carry that joy, I carry the logo
of my institution with me.
In the states where you graduated is very important, because most often the kind
of institution you graduate from determine what you are capable of doing, and I
am trying my best to set those standards now for St Louis.
Currently I am working with one of the biggest hospital in the State of Maryland
called Holy Cross hospital (http://www.holycrosshealth.org).I work in the General
surgery department were I provide pre and post operative care for all kind of surgeries
you can ever imagine. I have had the opportunity to put in to practice most of the
work we could only do theoretically and I have met with great surgeons, researches,
authors of some of the nursing books and medical books that we use and the leaning
experience has just been increasing like Daniel Boortin said education is learning
what you did not know you did not know.
Lately I have been thinking of what we can do this year to help students of our
great institution get to improve on the level of nursing in Cameroon and also better
prepare those aspiring to come the state owing to the number of emails I have received
recently and two thinks crossed my mind
1. First, if we limit essay questions in our exams and eliminate memorizing by student
and get them acquainted with the NCLEX question style which to my knowledge is the
best in the world right now I belief it will be a wonderful step.
To achieve that objective I am ready to sent some typical NCLEX format review books
to the institution and CD's which will basically be use by the lecturers for now
to initiate this goal as soon as I see some body visiting home.
2.I was also thinking that since most of the student are interested in moving to
the state to practice nursing, which I support a 100% and owing to the fact that
there is a continuous shortage of nurses in the States, we could take a mile stone
to appeal to the commission on graduates of foreign nursing school (CGFNS)to start
a center in Cameroon, they have one in ABUJA, Nigeria which is far off and most
student may not be able get over there. They offer VISA programs for foreign student
who are able to pass their certification exams which is very similar to NCLEX.
I believe that it is better to try and fail than to fail to try, and I also believe
that what counts is the not the size of a Dog in the fight but the size of the fight
in the dog, for who ever wants to reach a distant goal must begin with small steps.
I believe we can do this
Sir, what do you think?
3. Finally I may be visiting home next year and SALEXSA (St Louis ex-students association)
is thinking of rallying the first EX-student come together and a fund raising Gala/party
for the school library.
These are just my proposals Doc and I will be waiting patiently for your respond.
My sincere greetings to the administration and lecturers of St Louis higher institute
of health, just very soon I think it will be St Louis University.
Once more the pleasure is all mine.
Sincerely
yours
Stanislaus A Akisah, RN
